Hawaiian Bodywork was the first really profound massage that I remember. At around the age of 25, I was gifted a bodywork session from my mother, Judy. A registered nurse and midwife, my mother was a natural healer who cared deeply about her work, family and experience of life.
The massage penetrated deeply into my psyche. It changed the way my body, particularly my lower back, felt for months, and opened up my mind to something more powerful, and loving, than I had previously perceived.
This introduction to Hawaiian bodywork was one of my mother’s legacies to me. When she passed away, it took me years to remember my compelling desire to learn Hawaiian Bodywork, initiated by that first massage. But I remembered, and enrolled in a lifetime of beautiful connections by undertaking my first massage studies in the year 2000.
I’ve been massaging since this time, and Essential Bodywork is the culmination of my experience.
I have been fortunate enough to teach Hawaiian Lomi Lomi all around the world. In Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Italy.
I have studied Hawaiian bodywork in Australia, with Mettes Institute, Na Pua O’lohe, Mana O Kahiko, and in Hawaii, on Kauai, with Fern Merle-Jones. I have studied Thai Massage at ITM, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I hold a Diploma of Remedial Massage, and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, which gives me accreditation as a Trainer in Australia.
In 2003, I founded a successful shopfront massage business in Peregian Beach, called Sea to Sky Massage. After several busy years, I sold this business, and now I practice again from a centrally located studio, this time in Thomas Street, Noosaville.
I’ve worked in day spas including The Golden Door Retreat in Willowvale and the Hyatt Regency Coolum Sun Spa, both five star destinations. While I have studied many different energetic modalities, including Reiki, my passion remains with Hawaiian Bodywork and the Seven Spiritual Principles which make up the Huna Philosophy.
1. IKE – The world is what you think it is
2. KALA – There are no limits.
3. MAKIA – Energy flows where attention goes
4. MANAWA- Now is the moment of power.
5. ALOHA – To love is to be happy with
6. MANA – All power comes from within
7. PONO- Effectiveness is the measure of truth
At Essential Bodywork, we specialize in Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, a feminine, flowing, nurturing form of bodywork. We offer this from our Noosaville studio, in a peaceful, serene setting.
